Built on the green slope of Mount Zebi, at an altitude of about 1000 m., in the area of Aronia, and 28 km from Kalavrita, is the Monastery of Agioi Theodoroi.
Unfortunately, there is not enough information about the year of foundation of the monastery, only an inscription at the entrance of the church which mentions the renovation in 1924 by Abbot Simeon from Agridi. However, there is also the opinion that its history begins in 1000 - 1100 AD. Then it knows periods of prosperity and decline, like many monasteries in Greece and especially during the Turkish occupation. The contribution of the monastery to the Struggle of 1821 was significant, since it was the centre of the Friends of the region, became a base for many fighters for battles fought in the surrounding villages, supplied with food and money, and functioned as a Secret School, where children learned their first letters and then continued in the School of Sopotou, founded in 1796 to keep the flame for the freedom of the enslaved race unquenched. However, after liberation it had many debts which were covered by the love and faith of the surrounding inhabitants. Today it is inhabited by nuns who experience the pious spirit of the Church and the traditions of Orthodox Parliamentary Monasticism and decided to dedicate themselves and staff the mountainous Holy Monastery of Agioi Theodoroi Aroania. The most valuable relics of the Monastery are the seven reliquaries where the Holy Relics of Saint Theodore and 21 other Saints of our Church are kept, a Gospel of the 15th century with a silver-covered cover, some very old liturgical books and two icons of Saint Theodore and the Virgin Mary.
The Monastery is honored on the first Saturday of Great Lent and on June 8.
