Kastria

A beautiful, traditional village emerges from the lush, natural landscape with stone fountains and the church of Panagia with its unique bell tower.

There is also the enchanting Cave of Lakes, intertwined with many myths and stories. A little further on, we come across the Holy Church of the Ascension, a cavernous, picturesque church from 1886, which has been declared a Historical, Preserved Monument of the Byzantine period by the Ministry of Culture.

There, according to the legend, the imprint of the image of the Ascension was found on a rock. From the church of Agia Varvara (1975) the view is marvelous. Also, worth seeing is the fountain of Jeremiah, an old monk who was burned there by the fire he had lit himself.

The Memorial of the Fallen in the village square reminds us of the history of the place. For nature lovers, the fir forest is an excellent choice. Through a forest road, passing a traditional, stone bridge on the stream of Lagadas, you reach an old, stone-built ditch and wander through the fir forest of Chelmos that spreads generously before you.

In addition, the E4 trail (Diakopto - K. Zachlorou – Kalavrita - K. Lousoi - Planitero - Arbounas - Agios Nikolaos – Tourlada – Krinophyta - Lykouria) is an outstanding nature escape.
