Kerpini

The village is located at an altitude of 1070 meters north of Kalavrita, from which it is 10 km away.  In 1884, Kerpini was declared a municipality with ten (10) beautiful villages, whose population reached seven hundred and eighty (780) inhabitants in total.

During the period of the Ottoman occupation, the village suffered destruction, looting, fires, however, many of the houses of that period still retain their war memorials and some of them are still standing today. In particular, the tower of Zaymaia and two (2) stone mills are ruins, but they are able to remind us daily of the history of the place. In addition, twenty-six (26) churches, one of which, Agios Nikolaos, was built during the Venetian period and dates back to about 550 years ago.

Due to its advantageous position towards the sun, the village is devoid of humidity, offering its inhabitants the best possible climate.

On 8/12/1943 the German occupation troops massively executed 37 male inhabitants of the village aged between 17 and 77 years old, and the total number and completely destroyed the village, after looting the houses and taking everything they could find.

In memory of the executed residents of Kerpini, the village's Cultural Association erected a memorial at the site of the execution, where every year an event is held in honour of the victims.
